Nathaniel Ellis Cannady, Jr., has been a resident of Asheville since 1951, when he came to work in the electrical contracting business with the M. B. Haynes Electrical Corporation. Over the years the company added general construction, heating and cooling, plumbing and other construction-related businesses to the corporation, making M. B. Haynes Corporation the multifaceted construction company it is today.
Mr. Cannady established this scholarship as a means to help local students who wish to pursue a career in the engineering or construction industry, fields that have provided Mr. Cannady and his family with an engaging, beneficial and enjoyable lifestyle.
As part of giving back to the community, Mr. Cannady now wishes to make this opportunity available to the area's young people.
