The Johneen Roth Epstein Scholarship was established by her sister as a loving tribute to her spirit and love of vocal music. Johneen shared her natural talent with others throughout her life, and it is hoped that this scholarship will encourage young people to develop their own gifts and passion for vocal music.

A rising sophomore, junior, or senior Brevard College student who is committed to the serious study of vocal music. Award candidates should apply to the Department of Music at Brevard College. A scholarship committee representing The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina will interview finalists and determine the recipient of the award. Although this is a one-time award, past recipients may reapply a second time if they continue to be eligible.
The Community Foundation scholarships will be awarded without regard to age, race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, political affiliation, religious belief, or any other characteristic protected by law.
- Commitment to the serious study of vocal music (preference for students who have declared or plan to declare a music major)
- Demonstrated talent in vocal music
- Overall academic achievement
- Financial need
