Say Whoa to Bullying Receives Grant
Free Rein Center (FRC) requests $4,370 to expand the Say Whoa to Bullying program to serve an 40 additional students. Impacts of bullying are serious and can cause lasting problems. Equine Assisted Therapy programs are successful in helping bullied and bullying children. As a PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) certified center, FRC understands the horse/human bond and developed the program to teach students about horses, horse therapy and behavior modification. The goal of the Say Whoa to Bullying program is to show measurable improvements in these areas: reductions in fighting and disruptive classroom behavior, increased self-confidence, peer support and understanding the causes of bullying.
Brevard Music Center - $3,500 to support a community concert and outreach program for economically disadvantaged young people and adults as part of the 2019 Summer Festival.
Brevard Philharmonic - $6,000 for expansion of the Music in the Schools Program.
Davidson River School - $6,035 for a two-day Reconnect for Resilience training.
Free Rein Center for Therapeutic Riding and Education - $4,370 to expand the Say Whoa to Bullying program.
Muddy Sneakers - $5,000 for general support of its day camp.
Neighbors in Ministry/Rise & Shine - $8,000 to continue its collaborative Sexual, Verbal and Physical Abuse Prevention Skills Initiative.
North Toxaway Baptist Church/Food Bank - $2,500 for food and operation costs.
Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute - $7,910 to fund a comprehensive initiative to provide hands-on experiential learning.
Pisgah Legal Services - $8,500 to provide free civil legal assistance and advocacy to low-income residents in Transylvania County.
Smart Start of Transylvania County - $5,000 to implement the Jump Start to Kindergarten program.
Transylvania Christian Ministry - $6,000 to establish a designated fund to cover large-expense emergency repairs for low income, elderly neighbors.
